iPhone & iPad · Receipt scanning
Point your camera at any receipt and PocketTrip reads it on the spot: the amount, merchant, date and category, all filled in for you. There's nothing to type, and nothing gets sent to the cloud. Tap save and you're back to enjoying the trip, with no shoebox of paper waiting for you when you land.
The shoebox problem
Every traveller knows the ritual: a jacket pocket stuffed with crumpled till slips, a wallet that won't close, and the vague plan to "sort it all out later." Later never comes. By the time you're home the ink has faded, half the receipts are missing and you have no idea what that €40 cash withdrawal in Seville actually paid for.
A receipt scanner app only helps if it's quicker than shoving the paper in your bag. PocketTrip is built for that exact moment at the counter: open the app, aim the camera, and the details are read before the receipt printer has even stopped whirring. Keep the paper or bin it. Either way the record is already safe on your phone and counted against your budget.
How it works
Tap the scan button and point your camera at the slip. Steady it for a second and PocketTrip grabs the image. Indoors, in low light, at an angle, it doesn't mind.
On-device intelligence pulls out the total, the merchant, the date and a likely category, and drops them into a ready-to-save draft. There's no round trip to a server, so it happens right away.
Glance over the draft, fix anything that isn't quite right, and tap save. The expense lands in your trip, converted to your home currency and counted against your budget.
On-device by design
Most scanning apps ship your photo off to a cloud OCR service to be read. PocketTrip doesn't. The on-device receipt AI runs on your iPhone using Apple's built-in intelligence, so the image and everything read from it stay with you. A receipt can reveal where you were, when, and what you bought. That's your business, not ours.

No signal needed. Scan a whole day's receipts on the plane home and they're read straight away.
Reads totals, dates and merchants on receipts in many languages and scripts, from Tokyo to Lisbon.
Each scan is an editable draft. Correct the merchant, split the total or change the category before saving.
Saved expenses convert to your home currency with live rates and count against your daily cap immediately.
Trips sync through your own iCloud, so your scanned expenses follow you to your iPad without a third party in the middle.
FAQ
Yes. PocketTrip reads your receipts entirely on-device using Apple's built-in intelligence. The photo and the details it pulls out stay on your iPhone. Nothing gets uploaded to PocketTrip or any third-party server, and there's no cloud OCR service in the loop.
Yes. The scanning runs on your device, so it works with no signal at all: on a plane, in a remote village, or once your foreign SIM has run out of data. Scan a whole stack of receipts offline and the details are filled in right away.
Yes. The scanner recognises numbers, dates and merchant names on receipts in many languages and alphabets, so a till slip from Tokyo, Lisbon or Marrakech is read just as easily as one from home. You can always review and tweak any field before saving.
It reliably picks up the total, merchant and date on clear, well-lit receipts, and suggests a category based on the merchant. Crumpled or faded slips are harder, so every scan lands in an editable draft where you can correct anything before it's saved to your trip.
