Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 September 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how PocketTrip ("the app"), a travel budget and expense tracker for iPhone, iPad and Android made by Beren Software (a company based in the Netherlands, KvK 89646118), handles your information. In short: your trips and expenses live on your device and in your own private iCloud (iPhone and iPad) or your own Google account backup (Android). We cannot see them, and we never sell your data. A plain-language summary is at the bottom.

2. Information we collect

We designed PocketTrip to collect as little as possible.

We do not collect your name, the contents of your trips and expenses, your location history, your email address (unless you add it to a suggestion) or your payment details.

3. Your data storage

Trips, expenses, budgets, categories, travel companions, notes and photos you add are stored on your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, synced through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to your other devices using your private iCloud database. This data is controlled by you and your Apple ID; Beren Software has no access to it.

On Android, this data is stored on your device only. If Android backup is turned on, Android may back up the app's data to your own Google account. Backup files and exports you create in the app are only shared when you share them yourself. Beren Software has no access to any of this.

4. How we use your information

We use the limited information above only to improve the app, provide technical support, and manage purchases. We do not use it for profiling or advertising.

5. Location

If you grant permission, the app uses your location on-device to automatically fill in the country and place for an expense and to show weather for your trip. To fetch weather, the coordinates of your location (or of the place you picked) are sent to the Open-Meteo API. Place names are looked up with your device's geocoding service (Apple on iPhone and iPad, Google on Android). We do not store your location on our servers.

6. Photos & receipt scanning

Receipt and memory photos you add stay in the app, and in your iCloud or Android backup. Receipt scanning runs entirely on your device: with Apple's on-device intelligence on iPhone and iPad, and with ML Kit text recognition and Gemini Nano on supported Android phones. Receipt images are not uploaded to us or any third party.

7. Third-party services

8. Data security

All network requests use HTTPS encryption, analytics are anonymised, and your trip data is protected by the encryption of your device and of iCloud or your Google account.

9. In-app purchases

Purchases (PocketTrip Pro) are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your card or payment details. RevenueCat verifies and manages subscription status using a pseudonymous identifier.

10. Analytics and tracking

We use TelemetryDeck to understand which features are used. Signals are aggregated and contain no personal data or trip content, the app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA on iPhone, advertising ID on Android), and there is no cross-app tracking.

11. Advertising

PocketTrip contains no advertising and does not sell or share your personal data.

12. Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data we hold. Because your app content is stored on your device and in your own iCloud or Google account, most of it is already under your control. You can delete any trip or expense in the app, and remove all data by deleting the app and its iCloud data (iPhone and iPad) or its backup in Google Drive under Backups (Android). For anything else, contact us.

13. International data transfers

The third parties we rely on are GDPR-compliant. Your trip data itself stays on your device and in your iCloud or Google account.

14. Legal basis for processing

Where the GDPR applies, we process the limited data above on the basis of your consent, our legitimate interest in improving and supporting the app, and the performance of our contract with you.

15. Data breach notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting personal data, we will notify affected users and the relevant authority where required, within 72 hours of becoming aware.

16. Cookies

This website uses no tracking or advertising cookies. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile solely to tell humans from bots.

17. Children's privacy

PocketTrip is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

18. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above will change and the current version is always posted here.

20. Summary

In short: your trips and expenses stay on your device and in your private iCloud or Google backup. We can't see them. We collect only anonymous usage data (TelemetryDeck), purchase status (RevenueCat/Apple/Google) and suggestions you choose to send us. No ads, no tracking, no selling your data. Questions? Email us.
